Tom’s addiction for winter recreation began in the late 1950’s. His dad was a part time patroller at Mount Whittier in Ossipee, NH therefore skiing became their weekend ritual. Tom started his ski industry career as an aspiring instructor at Mt. Cranmore NH with the Hannes Schneider Ski School during the winter of 1977/78. He became a certified member of PSIA in 1979 with aspirations of becoming a member of their educational staff. Tom was appointed an examiner in 1993, member of the Eastern division demo team in 1994 and a PSIA-E divisional representative at the 1996 National Demo Team tryouts. His attempt at the National team ended unsuccessfully which redirected his career path toward overall ski area operations under the guidance of Phil Gravink and Les Otten of the American Ski Company (ASC). Upon Phil’s’ retirement in the fall of 1999 Tom became his successor as Managing Director, COO at Attitash.
The experience he gained with ASC prepared Tom well for his current roll as President, CEO of Schweitzer Mountain Resort in Sandpoint, Idaho – kind of a dream come true, 15+ years and still as passionate as day 1.
Tom is married to his high school sweetheart, Donna, and they have 3 children and 6 grandchildren all passionate winter enthusiasts. Tom is an active hockey player, enjoys cycling, wake-surfing and an occasional round of golf.
