PAFE
PROGRAMS
TEACHER GRANTS
Teacher Grants are awarded on an annual basis to teachers who compete for available funds. Awards are based on innovation, collaboration, impact on education, and a cost-benefit analysis.
RESULTS: Since 2003, 886 grants have been completed totaling an investment in our classrooms of over $2.2 million. Examples include classroom technology, lab/safety equipment, musical instruments, robotics, math and book clubs, and more.
CAREER/COLLEGE GUIDANCE COUNSELOR CENTER
PAFE funded the start of the Career/College Guidance Counselor and Center, which takes the mystery out of life after high school and gives every graduating senior the gift of a career plan and an exciting future.
RESULTS: All seniors are offered individualized one-on-one sessions to strategize for their post-secondary choices.
READY! FOR KINDERGARTEN
READY! for Kindergarten is a program for families with children aged 0-5 years. In our district and nationwide, 44% of children entering kindergarten test below proficiency for learning readiness. Data verifies that children who start behind typically stay behind.
RESULTS: After 10+ years of the READY! for Kindergarten program, 90% of READY “graduates” continually enter school testing at or above Kindergarten readiness levels.
RESIDENTIAL CARPENTRY PROGRAM
Lake Pend Oreille School District asked PAFE for startup funds to expand their Career and Technical (CTE) offerings, specifically for a Residential Carpentry & Pre-Apprenticeship Program. This initiative enhances students’ high school experience by introducing them to various career choices and providing expanded options for post-graduation.
RESULTS: Since the program began, classes have been full and students are learning valuable life skills such as electrical, plumbing and building work-stations, sheds and tiny homes from scratch.
READY to READ
After a decade of continuous support as a PAFE Teacher grant, the PAFE Board of Directors chose to add Ready to Read to their Early Childhood Literacy initiatives. This reading incentive program provides each 1st grader in the Lake Pend Oreille School District with a non-judgmental plush puppy as a reading companion. Prizes are awarded as students read books to their furry reading buddies.
RESULTS: Since the start of this reading incentive program, the test scores of LPOSD 1st-grade students, as measured by the Idaho Reading Indicator, is consistently higher than the state of Idaho average. Teachers love this program and see an increased eagerness by their students to read.
AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM PARTNERSHIP
District leadership requested funding as an external partner for LPOSD’s 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant. This after-school program provides students with academic support, enrichment activities and meaningful parent engagement events.
RESULTS: Serving 120 students, this program provides homework help, tutoring, STEM, art, music, physical fitness, healthy snacks and more.
